In water valves, there is the risk that the valve seat and/or the tapered valve plug will be squeezed and therefore damaged if the valve spindle operating the tapered valve plug is overtightened. To avoid the squeezing of the seal in the valve seat or in the tapered valve plug, an anti-rotation safeguard can be provided. In the case of correct operation of the water valve, this allows the stroke motion of the tapered valve plug without hindrance but, if the valve is closed with too much force, the anti-rotation safeguard is released and ensures that the tapered valve plug cannot come down any further onto the valve seat. The reliability of the anti-rotation safeguard is achieved by the fact that it is designed as a flexible spline system. The low dimensional tolerances required for particular reliability and long-term stability are achieved by virtue of the fact that the housing, on the one hand, and the tapered valve plug together with a valve piston, on the other hand, are of integral construction. This also considerably reduces the outlay involved in manufacture and assembly.
