Laminated material or workpiece with a support layer and a functional layer, in particular a sliding layer, having the structure of a solid but fusible dispersion, with a matrix and at least one constituent dispersed in the matrix. Said constituent is, at least in its solid state, insoluble in the material of the matrix or is only soluble in a smaller quantity than is present or has the structure of a generally fusible, tightly bonded mixture suitable for tribological purposes of constituents which can be partly crystal-like in shape and are not soluble in each other or only soluble in a quantity smaller than the quantity present. The exposed surface of the functional layer of said laminated material or workpiece is submitted to a surface treatment in order to change the structure of the dispersion alloy or of the mixture. Said treatment consists in melting the surface and cooling it down extremely quickly from its melted state, which results in a very fine globular distribution of the undissolved constituents, the material of said surface area being frozen in an almost amorphous state. Said surface area may have a thickness of between 20 νm and 500 νm, preferably between 50 νm and 100 νm. The structural transformation is operated by means of a laser beam on a punctual very narrow focal point, which is moved gradually over the surface to be treated in such a manner that the laser beam forms a small punctual molten bath which is immediately and extremely quickly cooled, solidified and thereby frozen in an almost amorphous state once the focal point has moved on, i.e. when the laser beam no longer impinges on it.
|
