The process consists of some preparatory phases such as measurement of radiation at the site and determining possible contamination of the shields, and some later phases which include dismantling and transport to the processing centre, radiological measurements on the shields, reduction in volume by cutting up, treatment of the reduced shields and final radiological checking of the separate parts.
