A process for the production of porous, particularly macroporous, polymer membranes comprises dispersing an insoluble filler into a solution containing at least two phase separated polymers to form a homogenous casting solution, applying the solution to a support, followed by precipitation coagulation. The membranes produced are highly absorbent and may be employed, as supporting matrices for test strips for the detection of substances to be analysed in a liquid, in particular urine.
