PURPOSE:To attain sure read of a flow control character to be sent by devising the controller so that the flow control character is detected when an inter- character timer overflows and a flow control request is caused after the inter- character timer overflows again. CONSTITUTION:When a next character 'Xon' (flow control character) is given while an inter-character timer 2 overflows, a comparison section 4 applies comparison and a coincidence signal is outputted and a delay section 5 latches an overflow output of the inter-character timer 2. When the character 'Xon' is inputted and the inter-character timer 2 overflows again, an output of a gate circuit 6 is given to a control section 7 by using a coincidence signal among an overflow output of the inter-character timer 2, a delay output of the delay section 5 and the comparison section 4. The control section 7 gives a flow control request to the output section 8, which outputs a flow control signal to a host computer and a terminal equipment to be connected. Thus, the sent flow control character is surely read.
