<p>PURPOSE:To detect the service time of a nonvolatile storage element by writing initial data in the storage element and discriminating hat the initial data change while data are written or erased when the device using the nonvolatile storage element is used. CONSTITUTION:An EPROM 4 is a memory for which, for example, ten thousand times of data writing and erasing are guaranteed and the number of prints is counted from the used state of a printer device after the EPROM 4 is mounted on the printer device after initial data 'AA' are written in its initial data writing area 5a. A CPU 1 incorporated in the printer device reads out data stored in the address '00' of the EPROM 4 and discriminates whether or not the read-out data are 'AA'. When the read-out data are not 'AA', the CPU 1 discriminates that the EPROM 4 is defective or its service life terminates and displays that the EPROM 4 is not usable on a display section 6 after executing an error process. The count value of the prints is stored in the count data storing area 5b of the EPROM 4.</p> |
