The process for etching mono-filaments before metallising by chemical redn. of metal salt solns., with which they are treated, consistsa of (a) washing the fibre in an acid degreasing bath; (b) washing in running water; (c) treatment with a soln. contg. 50% hydroxyl ions from soln. or generated chemically, e.g. caustic soda or potash solns., at 65-100 deg.C dependent on the dwell time and the mono-filament diameter; and (d) energetic washing in running water and de-mineralising.
