PURPOSE:To simplify the structure and as well as facilitate the operation of the steering gear by a structure wherein two sets of piston and cylinder, in which each piston is housed, are respectively arranged at both ends of the tooth train of a rack cut on a pinion shaft. CONSTITUTION:The pistons 12 and 12' are provided and the cylinder tubes 13 and 13', in which the pistons 12 and 12' are housed respectively, are arranged so as to form cylinder chambers A and B ajacent to the pistons 12 and 12' respectively at both the ends of the tooth train 11 of the rack of the rack shaft 10. In this case, the inside diameter C1 of the cylinder tube 12' are made smaller than the inside diameter C2 of the cylinder tube 13' so that the area of the pressure facing at the piston 12' side, which is reduced by the cross-sectional area of the rack shaft 10, is equal to that at the piston 12 side. The rack shaft 10 is forcibly driven by the difference between the pressures within the chambers A and B. In such a manner as mentioned above, the pressure receiving areas at the pistons 12 and 12' are easily made equal to each other and no adjustment by means of an intricate valve mechanism becomes necessary. |
