PURPOSE:To improve the storage density by using a spatial optical modulator which has opening/closing element arrayed in two dimensions without any disconnection and placing opening/closing elements adjoining to a specific opening/ closing element in a transmission state when the specific opening/closing element is set in the transmission state. CONSTITUTION:Only four of, for example, nine opening/closing elements 14-1, 14-3, 14-7, and 14-9 are put in operation while 'transmission' and 'nontransmission' are allowed to correspond to pieces of digital information '1' and '0'. Thus, when the four opening/closing elements are operated in 'transmission' mode, three opening/closing elements of other five opening/closing elements which adjoin to each opening/closing element vertically, horizontally, and slantingly are also put in operation at the same time. Thus, the spatial optical modulator 4 which has opening/closing elements 14 arrayed in two dimensions without any break is used and when specific opening/closing elements 14 are put in the transmission state, its adjacent opening/closing elements 14 are also put in the transmission state at the same time to improve the storage density. |
