PURPOSE:To enable an inexpensive magnetic disk base material of the high contact-start-stop (CSS) characteristic to be manufactured by rotating at a low speed two kinds of endless polishing tapes of different surface roughness to be adapted to each surface of the disk base material rotating at a high speed. CONSTITUTION:A disk base material 10 is mounted to a rotary holder 13. Endless polishing tapes 14L, 14R parallelly arrange two kinds of different surface roughness polishing parts, that is, parts 22L, 22R adapted to a magnetic recording-reproducing region 21 and parts 24L, 24R adapted to a contact-start- stop (CSS) region 23 in a position coming into contact with each surface of the disk base material 10, and by rotating the endless polishing tapes 14L, 14R to come into contact with the disk base material 10, its CSS region 23 rough forms its surface roughness and the magnetic recording-reproducing region 21 forms its surface to the roughness equal to the conventional polishing tape. Thereafter, treatment of surface treatment, electroless plating, carbon spatter, etc. is applied as in the past. |
