A bottle of flexible material (see Division B8) for use in the intravenous injection of parenteral liquids has areas (13) of its side walls capable of assuming convex or concave positions, Figs. 1 and 3A. When filled initially the interior of the bottle is under negative atmospheric pressure, thereby drawing the wall areas (13) inwards, and the bottle neck is sealed (see Division B5) by a device including a resilient member (22), Fig. 2. At the time of use, a second liquid may be inserted into the bottle by means of a syringe puncturing the member (22) which thereafter re-seals automatically. The volume of the second liquid is taken up by the wall areas (13) which expand to their convex position. A transfusion needle may then be inserted through the member (22) and the bottle inverted and suspended by an integral basal handle (32). The bottle base is also formed with a device (35), permitting access to the interior by perforation, which may be used for fitting an air vent or for inserting a complementary medical solution. The bottle may be used to contain plasma substitute solutions, anticoaqualant solutions or blood. |
