PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent cut end surface by gripping the core of an exposed optical fiber in the air, applying a constant tensile force, and moving a incising blade at right angles to the fiber. CONSTITUTION:The bare optical fiber 2 which is exposed by removing the terminal part coating of a coated optical fiber core 1 is set on a moving clamp base 13 and a fixed clamp base 12 and held in the air. At this time, a tensile force operation lever 18 is operated to applies the specific tensile force to the bare optical fiber 2. Then the operation lever 22 for the incising blade 19 is drawn and then the flawing blade 19 moves at right angles to the axis of the coated optical fiber 1 to contact the optical fiber 2, thereby generating an initial incision A. When the optical fiber is not cut by the 1st operation, the flawing blade 19 is returned to the origin position and the operation lever 22 is drawn again. This operation is repeated and then the initial incision becomes deep gradually with the blade force which is increased in the origin returning operation; when the depth (h) of the incision reaches about 10mum, the optical fiber 2 is cut having no variance in its cut end shape. |
