The subject of the present invention is a growth microsubstrate, which can be used especially for the multiplication of plants by sowing or micropropagation in in-vitro culturing or under glass, produced in the form of a composite strip capable of being rolled on itself, to constitute a ready-for-use growth plug which is substantially cylindrical or conical. According to the invention, this strip has a three-layer structure comprising a sheet of cellulose cotton wool, a layer of water-retaining particles to which peat fibres are or are not added, and a non-biodegradable non-woven sheet intended to constitute the external surface of the plug, during use. The invention finds application especially in in-vitro culturing on the industrial scale. <IMAGE>
