A method and apparatus for preparing solutions is described, wherein distilled water is provided to one compartment 12 of a dialyzer 14 separated from a second compartment 16 by a solute permeable membrane 18. A solution containing solutes to be dissolved in the distilled water is provided to the second compartment 16 at a pressure substantially lower than that of the distilled water in the first compartment 12. The method is believed to be particularly suited to the preparation of sterile non-pyrogenic solutions for infusion into patients. <IMAGE>
