The invention relates to a method and a transport system for putting poultry, in particular hens, into and/or removing poultry from cages, in particular laying cages. A transport rail system is provided, on which transport containers are, by means of gondolas, movable freely displaceably in a system of rail stretches. The poultry can be loaded into these transport containers and unloaded at the desired place without, as previously, chains of people being necessary for transport.
