PURPOSE:To obtain a safe artificial cartilage material having bio-compatibility and deterioration resistance, by treating polyvinyl alcohol, hyaluronic acid, hydroxyapatite and collagen with alkali. CONSTITUTION:An artificial cartilage material is prepared by treating polyvinyl alcohol, hyaluronic acid, hydroxyapatite and collagen (type II) with alkali. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to be used pref. has a viscosity average polymerization degree of 1,000 or more and hyaluronic acid (HA) to be used pref. has an average MW of 100,000 or more. Hydroxyapatite (HAP) to be used pref. has a particle size of 1-1,000mum and, when the particle size is below 1mum, the adhesiveness of a cartilage cell to the surface of a gel becomes inferior and, when the particle size exceeds 1,000mum, the uniformity of HAP in the gel becomes inferior. For example, the artificial cartilage material can be prepared by adding an aqueous HA solution to an aqueous PVA solution under stirring and subsequently adding HAP and collagen (type II) to treat all of the components with alkali. |
