Variations in the properties of a yarn being processed are noted by analyzing the variations in power taken by one of the driving motors of the system. As shown Fig.3, the power taken by motor 34 driving feed rolls (30, Fig. 1, not shown) is measured by a Hall plate watt meter 48, the output signal being fed through a low pass filter 52, to remove transients, and the steady value compared at 56 with a reference value, to energize an alarm 60 if the reference value is exceeded. The power output signal is also fed through a band pass filter 62, passing higher frequency signals to solid state amplifier 64 and bridge rectifier 68, the D.C. signal being averaged at 70 and compared with a reference value at 74 to energise an alarm 78 if the reference value is exceeded. Operation of an alarm indicates a particular type of fault in the yarn being processed. |
