The invention relates to a cushion for a piece of furniture on which to sit and/or lie. The cushion (1) contains a foam-plastic body made of an open-cell foam which is arranged in an at least partly flexible but substantially non-elastic cover (2, 4), which is air-impermeable as a whole and has a valve (5), and at its surfaces is firmly connected to said cover. In order that all areas of the cushion (1) are as far as possible felt to be equally hard or soft by the user independently of the respective loading thereof by the user, the foam-plastic body (3) possess, in those regions which in normal use of the cushion (1) are loaded to a greater or lesser degree, a correspondingly greater or smaller thickness and/or strain hardness (Fig. 4). <IMAGE>
