The invention relates to a steam box for running webs which are guided through the treatment space over rows of upper and lower deflecting rolls, especially a dye steam box using the steaming hood principle, in which the webs enter the steam box from below and also leave the latter in a downward direction, the aim being to produce a universally applicable and economically operating steam box of this type. It is proposed according to the invention that, in the case of such steam boxes, there be arranged in the treatment chamber a partition having a passage for the webs and that the treatment sub-chambers formed in this manner be designed so as to permit the webs to be subjected to different treatments in each of the treatment subchambers. To achieve this, each of the treatment subchambers can be provided with a separate steam feed, in order to be able to subject a web to different steam treatments in these chambers if desired (Figure 1). <IMAGE>
