In an apparatus for grinding and separating granular material having at least two pairs of rollers arranged in a machine housing and at least one screen device, the hatches or hoods provided for maintenance or repair purposes and linked to the machine housing are constructed so as to be shock-pressure resistant. For the purpose of introducing explosion forces into the machine housing in a uniformly distributed manner over the entire rim of the hatches or hoods, every hatch or hood is connected in the region of its swivelling axis to the machine housing by a multiplicity of link elements and has, furthermore, in the region of its free edges, a corresponding multiplicity of locking elements which interact with complementary elements in the region of the corresponding opening of the machine housing. All of the locking elements for in each case one hatch or hood can be activated by a central actuating means.
