Extendable protective covering for the side windows of cars, integrated with the sheet-type roof covering

The known sheet-type roof covering for cars offers protection against the sun and rain from the roof side. The side windows are in this case unprotected. The invention integrates the side-window covering with the sheet-type roof covering. For this purpose, the core piece, the roller-blind shaft, is kept thinner at the two ends than the shaft itself. This has the advantage that the folding parts, which are attached to the two sides of the sheet, can position themselves on these thinner ends of the shaft when the roof sheet is being rolled up and lie flat with the roof sheet. On unrolling the roof sheet the folding parts are lowered and, in the process, cover the side windows of the car down to the door handles. On rolling back the roof sheet the folding parts again position themselves on the thinner shaft ends and together with the roof sheet again form a closed roller-blind. An umbrella-type linkage incorporated into the folding parts ensures that the folding parts fold and unfold readily.
