PURPOSE:To obtain a cosmetic, containing 1-O-(4-O-alpha-L-arabinofuranosyl-beta-D- glucopyranosyl)-1,2,3-propanetriol or a safflower extract solution containing the above-mentioned compound and effective against skin roughening, razor rash, etc. CONSTITUTION:A cosmetic obtained by blending 0.0001-5wt.% compound expressed by the formula or 0.01-50wt.% safflower extract solution containing the afore-mentioned compound with other ingredients. The afore-mentioned cosmetic is excellent in effects on prevention and improvement in flush after sunburn, razor rash, skin roughening, etc. A water-soluble organic solvent is added to a hot water extract concentrate of safflower to a provide a superna tant and the a concentrate thereof is redissolved in water. The resultant solution is injected into a reversed phase system liquid chromatographic column to recover a fraction having principal peaks at K'=0.5-20 in passing water, etc., therethrough and the concentrate of the fraction is then injected into an NH2-I25 NI column to recover a fraction having principal peaks at K'=0.5-8 and afford the aimed compound expressed by the formula. |
