A caliper (2) is mounted on a fixed brake anchor plate (1) so as to be displaceable parallel to the axis of rotation of the wheel to be braked and has two legs (2', 2'') which fit over a brake disk (not shown) connected rotationally fast to the wheel. First and second brake shoes (3, 4) are mounted on the respective caliper legs (2', 2'') and carry brake linings (3', 4') intended to be brought into contact with the respective sides of the brake disk, and guides (8) are arranged on the brake anchor plate (1) for guiding and supporting the two brake shoes (3, 4). One of the brake shoes (4) is designed to contact the brake disk first and is mounted on its caliper leg (2') by way of a piston (6), which is movable towards the brake disk by a mechanically actuatable expanding device acting between the piston (6) and the leg (2'). Hitherto, the piston (6) has been a separate component and merely interengaged a support plate for the brake shoe, but it is now proposed that they are connected rigidly, possibly combined as an integral component, to minimize uneven wear on the brake linings (3', 4'). <IMAGE>
