In order to achieve a smaller change in volume V and greater strength, in particular greater tear propagation strength W' and tensile strength Z', in a rubber, in particular a gasket (seal) rubber containing a first base mixture containing silicone rubber as principal constituent, after use of the rubber in hot oil, it is ensured that the first base mixture is mixed with a second base mixture containing hydrogenated nitrile rubber as the principal constituent, in a ratio of from 10 to 90 to 90 to 10 percent by weight. <IMAGE>
