Picture producing device and method for imaging an original picture and a bar code

In an electronic copier, a picture on an original is optically scanned by means of an optical system which contains a first slot (22) provided with an exposure lamp (14). The picture obtained with the optical system is generated on the surface of a tubular photo-conductive drum (36) which rotates in a predetermined direction. Bar code data which are not contained in the original picture are written onto the original picture at a desired location. In this way, the bar code data are entered from an operating panel (80) of the machine into the copier. The light which is guided from the optical system to the drum (36) is partly screened by a closure device (122). A bar code generator (147) generates pattern data which correspond to the bar code data which have been entered, the pattern data being entered at that point of the drum surface which is screened from the incident light by the closure device. A writing unit (74) is used for writing the pattern data. The original picture and the pattern data which have been generated on the drum surface are developed and transferred to a recording paper. <IMAGE>
