OPTICAL FIBER COUPLER PACKAGING BODY AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

PURPOSE:To obtain the small-sized multifiber optical fiber coupler for the fiber by packaging plural pieces of the optical fiber couplers each formed by welding and stretching the side faces of the bare fibers exposed after the coverings of two pieces of the optical fibers are removed in parallel to a sheet of substrate. CONSTITUTION:The bare fibers 103, 104 exposed after the coverings of two pieces of the optical fibers are removed are welded and stretched in the process for producing the optical fiber coupler by fixing plural pieces of the optical fiber couplers onto a sheet of the substrate 100. Plural pieces of the optical fiber couplers are packaged in parallel to a sheet of the substrate 100 by fixing the optical fiber couplers which are produced one after another to the substrate 100 while moving the position of the substrate 100 successively in parallel at the time of fixing the optical fiber couplers adjusted to attain required branch characteristics to the substrate. Two sets of plural pieces of the optical fibers which are arrayed in parallel are superposed above and below and the bare fibers from which the coverings are removed are welded and stretched between two pieces of the upper and lower optical fibers, by which plural pieces of the optical fiber couplers are simultaneously produced and are collectively fixed and packaged to a sheet of the substrate. The packaging of many pieces of the optical fiber couplers to a high density is thereby enabled and the size of the branching parts is reduced.
