发明名称 WAVEGUIDE TYPE OPTICAL MODULATOR
摘要 PURPOSE:To provide the optical modulator which operates on the wider band and can be stably connected to an optical fiber by constituting the modulator in such a manner that the substrate thereof has an end face formed in proximity to an electrode and the incident and exit ends of a waveguide are not on the same straight line as the straight line of the waveguide under the electrode. CONSTITUTION:The waveguide substrate 11 is cut to form the end face 11a in proximity to the electrode 13. The incident and exit ends of the waveguide 12 are shifted and disposed apart from the end face 11a in such a manner that the incident and exit end faces are not positioned on the same straight line as the straight line of the waveguide under the electrode. The distance from the end face 11a formed by the cutting to the electrode 13 is, therefore, short. The optical modulator which operates on the wider band is thereby obtd. The distance from the end face 11a formed by the cutting to the incident and exit end faces of the waveguide increases considerably. The contact area with the substrate end face is thereby increased in case of connecting the optical fiber and the stable connection is enabled.
