PURPOSE:To discriminate automatically, types of a tape by introducing a formula among a time of one revolution of supply and take up reels and tape thickness, tape length and hub diameter, and measuring the time of one revolution of the supply and the take up reels. CONSTITUTION:Rotating time detectors 4, 5 output signals TT, TS of a voltage level corresponding to a time of one revolution of the supply and the take up reels 2,3. The outputs are squared at square amplifiers 6, 7, and summed at an addition circuit 8. Comparators 9, 10, 11 compare a summed voltage level (corresponding to the sum of square of times TS, TT of one revolution) with signals C1, C2, C3 of each voltage level for tape discrimination stored in advance. A storage circuit 12 stores a specified voltage level and supplies the level to the comparison circuits 9, 10, 11 as the signals C1, C2 and C3. |
