A variable-crown roll is disclosed, which comprises a straight arbor (1), and a plurality of antifriction bearings (21-27) which are mounted on said arbor (1), each of said bearings having a cylindrical outer surface (26, 27) with is sloped with respect to the outer surface of said arbor, said bearings being symmetrically disposed with respect to the lengthwise center of said arbor, the slopes of the outer surfaces of said bearings on one side of the lengthwise center of said arbor being symmetric with respect to the slopes of the outer surfaces of said bearings on the other side of the lengthwise center.
