1,053,199. Power-assisted steering mechanism. BENDIX CORPORATION. Sept. 17, 1965 [Sept. 21, 1964], No. 39712/65. Heading B7H. In a power steering control valve comprising a valve spool 20 slidable in a body 10 formed with fluid pressure supply grooves 26, 28, a return groove 30 and power cylinder ports 32, 34, hydraulic reaction chambers 82, 84 at each end of the spool communicate with the cylinder parts 32, 34 through a slide valve 24 which limits the pressure differential in the chambers 82, 84 and hence the steering effort required. The valve 24 is displaced against spring-loading when the pressure differential at opposite ends thereof reaches a predetermined value so that a groove 50 or 58 moves out of communication with the low-pressure cylinder port 32 or 34 and into communication with a passage 36 or 38 from the supply grooves 26, 28 thereby increasing pressure in the appropriate chamber 82, 84. Restrictions in the passageways to the chambers 82, 84 damp actuation of the spool 20. The valve body 10 is secured to a drag link 12, and the spool to a bolt 112 actuated from a ball stud 100 connected to a pitman arm.
|
