A magnetic recording medium comprises a support of cellulose triacetate or polyester, a sub-layer of cellulose triacetate or polyester respectively, containing electrically conductive particles dispersed therein such that its surface resistivity is not greater than 109 ohms/cm<SP>2</SP>, and a top layer of magnetic particles in a polymeric binder. The sub-layer may be formed by (a) milling carbon black with a condensation product of ethylene glycol, terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid, adipic acid, and sebacic acid, and coating on to a polyethylene terephthalate base (Examples 1, 2 & 5) or (b) milling carbon black or graphite with a solution of cellulose triacetate and coating on to glass, then applying a thicker layer of cellulose triacetate alone to form the base (Examples 3 and 4). |
