PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of color mixture in multicolor recording by bringing caps into contact with only nozzles arranged at two or more positions in a divided state through a head position detecting means at the time of cleaning operation to perform the suction of ink from a head. CONSTITUTION:The nozzles 23 of an ink jet head 12 are arranged so as to be separated at every units Y, C, M, B and cleaning switches 30 are provided at every colors. For example, when the cleaning switch for a color M is closed, the nozzles for the color M are opposed to a cap 17 through a control circuit 31 to stop and cleaning is performed. When cleaning is performed to two or more color nozzles, two switches 30 are simultaneously or continuously closed. At this time, between the suction of the ink of one color and that of the ink of the other one color, suction is performed in such a state that the cap 17 is separated from the head or a valve 20 is opened. By this method, contamination due to the scattering or dripping of the ink from the cap 17 or the surfaces of the nozzles can be prevented. Further, the generation of the color mixture to other nozzles due to the ink remaining in the cap can be prevented. |
