PROCESS OF PREPARING 3-HYDROXY-5-METHYL ISOXAZOL

A process for prepg. 3-hydroxy-5-methyl isoxazol of formula (I) comprises (a) reacting a cpd. of formula CH3COCH2COOR1 [R1=C1-4 alkyl with ethyleneglycole in the presence of catalyst; (b) reacting with hydroxylamine hydrochloride at -10 to 25 deg.C in a basic media; (c) adding ketone of formula R2COR3 [R2=R3=H or C1-8 alkyl to the reaction mixt.; and (d) cyclizing at room temp. -70 deg.C. (I) is useful for treating damping-off in rice plant and paulownia tree.
