PURPOSE:To improve recording sensitivity by using metals having the thermal conductivity smaller than the thermal conductivity of the conventional films as a metallic reflecting film for the magneto-optical disk. CONSTITUTION:An underlying layer 2, a recording layer 3 and the reflecting film 4 are superposed on a transparent substrate 1 and the recording layer 3 is irradiated by laser light from the lower side of the substrate 1, by which information is recorded thereon. The reflected light from the recording layer 3 (associated to a Kerr effect) and the reflecting film 7 (associated to a Faraday effect) are utilized. Sb, In, Pt, Pd, Te, etc., are used for the reflecting film at this time. These metals are slightly inferior in reflectivity when compared with Al, Cu, Au, Ag, etc., which are heretofore used, but the thermal conductivity is smaller by about one digit. The heat radiation is, therefore, decreased and the laser power is lowered. The recording sensitivity is thus improved while the signal quality similar to the signal quality of the conventional medium is maintained. |
