PURPOSE:To prevent internal short circuit caused by the migration of a cadmium active material and to increase the cycle life of a battery by using a microporous separator whose pore shape is circular or oval. CONSTITUTION:In a sealed alkaline secondary battery having a cadmium negative electrode, a microporous separator whose pore shape is circular or oval is used. For example, one negative electrode is wrapped with a microporous polyethylene separator whose thickness is about 20mum, pore size is about 0.095mum, pore shape is circular or oval, and the negative electrode is interposed between two positive electrodes, then potassium hydroxide aqueous solution is poured as an electrolyte to form a square type alkaline secondary battery. Oxygen absorbency is increased and internal short circuit caused by the migration of a cadmium active material is prevented. The battery having long cycle life is obtained. |
