PURPOSE:To obtain a battery having high energy density and long charge- discharge life even when it is used as a secondary battery by using an alkali metal or an alkali metal alloy whose surface is previously treated with a nonpolar solvent as a negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:In a nonaqueous electrolyte battery having a nonaqueous electrolyte containing alkali metal ions, a positive electrode 3, and a negative electrode 5, an alkali metal or an alkali metal alloy whose surface is previously treated with a nonpolar solvent is used as the negative electrode 5. As the alkali metal or the alloy comprising alkali metal and one or more other metals, alkali metal such as lithium and sodium and the alloy containing this metal is used. As the nonpolar solvent used for surface treatment, aromatic hydrocarbon family solvent such as benzene and alicyclic hydrocarbon such as cyclopentadiene is used. One or more these solvents are used. A battery having high energy density and long charge-discharge cycle life even when it is used as a secondary battery is obtained. |
