PURPOSE:To improve antistatic property and adhesive strength by providing a conductive layer made of nonmagnetic metal having specific construction, adhering amount and surface electric resistivity on the surface of biaxially oriented polyester. CONSTITUTION:A substrate film 1 for magnetic recording medium for laminating a magnetic recording layer 3 on a conducting layer formed on at least one face of the biaxially oriented polyester film 1, the conductive layer 2 consists of island and/or net-like layers of nonmagnetic metal having the average amount adhering to one face of the substrate ranging 0.005-0.05g/m<2> and the surface resistivity 10<2>-10<10>OMEGA/cm<2>. The conductive layer 2 is made of an alloy including at least one of Fe, Co, Ni, or made of nonmagnetic metal such as Cu, Ag, Zn, Cd, Ti, or the alloys thereof. Sputtering is the most preferable method of forming the conductive layer 2 on the substrate film. The island or net layers can be formed by controlling the adhering amount thereof. |
