<p>A method of installation and construction of a structure (1) for protecting an area against erosion comprising the steps of: obtaining a plurality of substantially hollow shells (2) each shell including a waistline (5) of maximum cross-section and an upper region (3) above the waistline, and a lower region (4) below the waistline, each shell (2) including at its waistline or lower region a series of bores (6) arranged in a plane; laying the shells (2) individually on the area requiring protection such that the plane of the bores (6) lies substantially parallel to the surface of the area on which the shells lie; arranging the shells (2) such that bores (6) of adjacent shells are substantially aligned; passing through each pair of adjacent bores (6) a flexible member (7) such that each pair of adjacent shells (2) is connected together; and, filling each shell (2) through a hole (8) cut in its upper region with a settable dense filler to bind and to hold the flexible connecting members in place.</p> |
