[Also in Division F2] A fluidic track 2 for levitated transportation comprises a track surface 3, 4 having a plurality of valve-controlled nozzles 7, 28 which discharge pressure fluid, on actuation by a movable body 1 on the track, from a succession of chambers 6, each communicating with a corresponding chamber 12 of a supply main via throttled passages 13, 13a which delay re-charge of the chambers 6, to eliminate the possibility of collision between two bodies 1 moving in the same direction along the same track. The body 1 is guided by a central rib 3 and has a number of lift and guidance cushions 9 and 10, and the nozzles 7 are inclined in the direction of motion to provide lift and propulsion. The pressure fluid is supplied by compressors 15, and the partitions 16, 17 defining the chambers 6, 12 having openings 21, 22 closed by non-return valves 18, 19 allowing fluid flow therethrough only in the direction of travel. Each nozzle 7, normally closed by a spring-loaded arm 32 carrying a valve 8 (see Division F2), is opened by the pressure in the cushions 9. The valves 8 may also be solenoid operated, opened by a magnetic field created by the moving body 1. The orifices 13 may be replaced by variable area restricted orifices 13a (see Division F2) whose area is a function of the maximum pressure difference between the supply main and the chamber 6, thus providing a constant time of re-charge of the chamber 6 irrespective of the pressure drop therein. |
