Safety belt lock with a locking key in two parts

In the case of motor vehicle safety belt locks which, in the course of belt-tightening, are pulled abruptly downwards and can come to rest against an end stop with considerable force, the problem of involuntary opening of the lock occurs, as the lock key moves downwards when subjected to a shock, owing to its mass moment of inertia. It is proposed as a solution to this problem that the lock key 1 be divided into two parts and that the conventional opening key 2 be provided, an unlocking key 3 being arranged upstream of the latter. The opening key 2 is provided with catches 4 which are automatically locked against a casing 5 in the rest position. In the event of a shock in the direction of the arrow 10, the locking effect is increased owing to the rotational positions and centres of gravity of the catches. The mass moment of inertia of the small and light unlocking key 3 is not sufficient to disengage the locking of the catches by means of a downward movement in the event of a shock. When the lock is opened normally, the catches 4 of the opening key 2 are first unlocked by the unlocking key 3 until the stroke of the opening key 2 is initiated and opens the locking mechanism to permit release of the tongue of the lock. <IMAGE>
