Method for setting up and operating a high-voltage overhead line having a plurality of overhead-line cables which have a constant-current-carrying capacity with predetermined recommended values. The overhead-line cables are given a black surface and thereby provided with an emission coefficient of greater than 0.60, and preferably greater than 0.90. The recommended values of the constant-current-carrying capacity can be employed in mains operation without risk and without problematic limitations due to ambient conditions.
