Sample molecules are captured from a carrier fluid on the sufaces of passages in a heater. A first volume of carrier fluid is pumped in a first direction through the passages and then a second volume less than the first is pumped through the passages during a subsequent period. The surfaces are controllably heated to a selected temperature during the subsequent period to release the captured sample molecules. In one example the passages are defined between glass cylinders sandwiched between the turns of the metal foil spiral forming the heater. The second volume is preferably pumped in the reverse direction to the first. |
