Sealing means 40 between a bearing race 16 and a trunnion 14 of a universal joint comprises an elastomeric sealing ring 44 surrounding the trunnion and bonded to a metallic sleeve 42 and a U-section metallic ring 46 encircling the trunnion, the sleeve 42 and the ring 44 extending into the ring 46 to form a grit-excluding labyrinth seal therewith. The sleeve 42 is pressed into a counterbore in the bearing race 16 and is of L-cross-section, the radial leg 62 having holes 43B filled with knobs 43A on the sealing ring 44 to enhance the bonding between the sleeve and ring. The metallic ring 46 is pressed fitted on the trunnion 14 and abuts a shoulder 56 thereon. Sealing lips 45 and 52 on the ring 44 engage the ring 46 and the trunnion 14 respectively and the leg 43 of the sleeve 42 forms a circumferential gap 49 with the leg 41 of ring 46. The leg 62 of sleeve 42 axially locates the bearing needles 30.
