A method of covering a mattress core is described, a covering in each case being applied to the upper side and below the underside of the core, the edges of which coverings are drawn towards one another over the side surfaces of the core and interconnected. According to the invention, the connection of the coverings takes place via separate connection means which are subsequently covered with a side surface covering. As a result, the forces arising during use of the mattress are absorbed well on the one hand and the mattress according to the invention has a perfect appearance on the other hand, in particular because the side surface covering is applied separately from the actual connection means and can consist of correspondingly attractive material.
