PURPOSE:To inexpensively obtain a magnesium composite material which is used as a magnetic head arm, because it shows a low density and high Young's modulus, by coating a powder of an inorganic material of a specific density and Young's modulus with boron by the chemical vapor-phase growth process, mixing the product with a magnesium powder and sintering the mixture. CONSTITUTION:A powder of an inorganic material of less than 2g/cc density and more than 2X10<4>kgf/mm<2> Young's modulus, for example, Al2O3, Si3N4, or SiC is coated with boron by the chemical vapor-phase growth process. The resultant inorganic material coated with boron is mixed with a magnesium powder or a magnesium alloy powder and sintered in an inert atmosphere to give the subject Mg composite material. |
