PURPOSE:To render possible stable use for a prolonged period of time, by incorporating a particular naphthoic ester. CONSTITUTION:An additive, such as an antioxidant, a detergent-dispersant, a viscosity index improver, a pour point depressant, an anticorrosive, a metal inactivator or a rust preventive, is optionally added in an amt. of up to 10wt.% to a naphthoic ester of formula I [wherein X is a 1-20C alkyl or a group of formula II (wherein R is a 2-20C alkylene)] obtd. by reacting naphthoic acid with a 1-20C monohydric alcohol or a 2-20C dihydric alcohol at 100-180 deg.C in the presence of an acid catalyst. Alternatively, up to 50wt.% mineral oil or synthetic oil (e.g. polybutene) may be added to the naphthoic ester. |
