The clearance-type seal is for sealing between stationary and rotary members in e.g. a turbine, the seal functioning to seal between the lubricated bearing of the rotary member and a working chamber of the turbine. The seal comprises a narrow spacing between the rotatable and fixed members, i.e. between the lubricated bearing and the working chamber. A gas is introduced to the narrow spacing and flows towards the bearing, so as to prevent petroleum-based lubricant from the bearing from entering the spacing. The gas also guides the lubricant to a lubricantcollecting recess in the stationary or rotating member.
