<p>PURPOSE:To provide the subject compound for the intermediate of an active type vitamin D2, by using (S)-3-hydroxy-2-methyl-propionic acid methyl ester as a starting raw material, reacting an ether derivative thereof with a Grignard reagent and removing the protecting groups from the reaction product. CONSTITUTION:A (S)-3-hydroxy-2-methyl-propionic acid methyl ester of formula I (R forms an ether bond together with O and C atoms combined with the R) (e.g., S-3-t-butyldimethylsilyloxy-2-methyl-propionic acid methyl ester) is reacted with a Grignard reagent of formula II (X is halogen) to produce a compound of formula III (e.g., S-4-t-butyldimethylsilyloxy-2,3-dimethyl-2-butanol). The protecting groups of the produced compound of formula III is removed to provide (S)-2,3-dimethyl-1,3-butanediol of formula IV (e.g., S-2,3-dimethyl-1,3- butanediol).</p> |
