1,173,909. Packaging-machines. W. W. BENTLEY. 2 Nov., 1967 [2 Aug., 1966], No. 34516/66. Heading B8C. A machine for setting up and filling cartons has a magazine for collapsed tubular carton shells and suction grippers to draw down each shell past an erecting obstruction, the contents then being fed in and the carton moved to flap closing devices. Vertically reciprocating suction cups 46 draw each carton, initially separated from the pile 2 by screw feeders 12, 14, past plates 60 to open it. A member 62 prevents its return and a member 64 advances to square it up. Articles to be packaged are placed on a reciprocating open-fronted tray 18 which moves into the carton. A bar 56 advances to prevent withdrawal of the articles as the tray withdraws. A reciprocating bar 74 feeds the filled carton to the flap closure position where rods 76 (one only shown) operated by pneumatic motors hold the carton down. Similarly operated rods 78, 80, 82, 84, 92 then fold in the closure flaps which are finally secured by staples or adhesive (no details given). |
