<p>Instead of processing an entire image, a small window region 17 is processed so as to shorten the overall processing time. Cursors defining a window 16 are set and then these cursors are moved until they contact the edges of the pattern 1 to be recognised, to provide reference points for setting the window 17. One or more of the cursors may initially be located within the pattern and moved outwards until they contact the edges of the pattern. Once the window 17 has been set second windows indicating points of interest may be set. The second windows may select respective segments of seven- segment numerals, or an annular region around the top of a container; if this annular region contains more than a preset number of black pixels the covering of the container is misaligned. <IMAGE></p> |
